JALTCALL 2025 – Tokyo “CALL for All” Conference

The Language Centre team, including Dr. Grace Leung, Dr. Thomas Chan, and Mr. Sheung Ping Wong, attended the JALTCALL 2025 Conference organized by the Japan Association for Language Teaching at Tokyo University of Science, Katsushika Campus during July 18–20, 2025. They presented a paper, Generative artificial intelligence tools in university English language education: A systematic review.
 
The three-day conference brought together language educators interested in computer-assisted language learning (CALL), including captivating keynote speeches, presentations, and interactive workshops on expanding CALL for all language learners in light of the recent AI boom in education. 
 
The study presented the results of a systematic review of the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools in university English language learning and teaching (ELT). The study was conducted by staff members affiliated with the Language Centre, Dr. Grace Leung (co-director), Dr. Thomas Chan (event co-ordinator), and Mr. Sheung Ping Wong (project assistant). Dr. Thomas Chan also introduced the Language Centre’s QESS AI-based Language Laboratory project and gave a demonstration of an AI chatbot prototype for English writing.
