Workshop Overview
Language as Cultural Bridge – Mastering Essential Writing & Research Skills
Language serves as the cornerstone of culture, carrying within it the values, beliefs, and worldviews that define communities. In our increasingly interconnected world, strong written communication skills—especially academic writing proficiency—have become essential for undergraduate and senior high school students, directly impacting academic success and future career prospects.
This hands-on workshop introduces AI-powered writing assistant chatbots, developed by the AI-powered Language Laboratory (ALL), Hong Kong Shue Yan University. They are designed to bridge cultural understanding through enhanced Chinese and English writing skills. Participants will experience guided practice in crafting Chinese business letters and English research reports — two fundamental forms of cross-cultural professional communication that students encounter throughout their academic and professional journeys.
Beyond writing assistance, our research report chatbot functions as an intelligent research companion, teaching users how to locate specific information, evaluate source credibility, and integrate findings into coherent professional arguments. This dual functionality addresses the complete professional writing process — from initial research to final composition.
Our unique scaffolded learning approach provides suggestions and feedback rather than ready-made answers, fostering critical thinking while preserving cultural sensitivity. No prompt engineering experience needed — simply engage with our intuitive interface to discover how technology can enhance rather than replace human creativity in academic writing and research.
